‘South Park’ creators snag huge new deal with ViacomCBS, plan to use some money to create a cannabis label

Matt and Trey, the creators of the cult-classic TV series “South Park”, are signing up with Viacom and CBS to create a new project. The project will be very different from the pair’s past work, and will explore an emerging field: cannabis.

Back in November, Matt and Trey received a lucrative seven-season renewal deal with Sony Pictures Television.

Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of the long-running Comedy Central series “South Park,” have signed a new deal with the Viacom CBS-owned network that will make them the highest-paid independent comedy creators in TV history, according to sources familiar with the deal. Although the exact terms of the deal are not yet known, we’re told Stone and Parker will make at least $500,000 an episode for their new project, which has not yet been named. The pair are also in talks to produce a brand-new “South Park” TV series, which will be distributed by the new all-digital service, Showtime, a Viacom unit.
