Illinois House Passes Legislation That Would Give Minority Entrepreneurs Better Shot At Entering Cannabis Business

The state of Illinois is set to become the first state in the nation to set up a cannabis business program targeting low-income minority communities. House Bill 1010 would create a new cannabis business training program that would offer business assistance to minority-owned cannabis business owners. It would also allow them to apply for a license that would allow them to remain open past the city’s 9pm deadline.

In recent years, with the legalization of marijuana and the cultural shift in attitudes towards it, many people believe that it is only a matter of time before weed becomes completely legal. But, as the number of people who have tried it grows, the number of people that want to enter the industry also grows. While there is a large pool of people interested in starting a business in the cannabis industry, the lack of minority candidates makes it harder for these business owners to enter the industry.
